In
1998 food safety laws initiated by the Food Safety
Authority of Ireland (FSAI) necessitated the implementation
of the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP)
system and the delivery of food safety training in
all Irish food businesses. |
|
The
FSAI is responsible for the enforcement of all food
safety legislation in Ireland. The authority carries
out its enforcement functions through service contracts
with official agencies e.g. Health Boards, County Councils,
Corporations and various government departments. |
|
From
July 1999 - Dec. 2002 114 food businesses have
been issued with Closure Orders. |
This
demonstrates the attitude the FSAI is adopting
towards food business that ignore the food
safety regulations and should act as a warning
to all food handlers at each element in the
food chain. |
